When I sat down to write The Hustler's MBA: The Business Blueprint of Success, I didn't know it was the beginning of a trilogy.
I knew it was a truth I had been carrying for a long time. A truth about hustle and strategy, about what it actually takes to build something from nothing, about the entrepreneurial wisdom that exists in communities that the business world has historically overlooked and underestimated. I wrote that book because I believed — and still believe — that ownership begins with the individual. With mindset. With the decision to stop waiting for someone to hand you a seat at a table and start building your own.
Then came Project 2030: The Agenda For Black America.
Because the individual isn't enough. The most brilliant entrepreneur, the most disciplined strategist, the most visionary leader — none of it reaches its full potential without a community that is organized, resourced, and moving with intention. Project 2030 was the scale-up. Six pillars. One national agenda. A deadline we set for ourselves because we understood that transformation doesn't happen on someone else's timeline.
But even that wasn't the full argument.
There was one more thing that needed to be said. One more altitude that needed to be reached. One more truth that had been building inside me for thirty years — across every broadcast, every community board meeting, every mentorship conversation, every Emmy acceptance speech, every moment I stood at the intersection of culture, business, and media and watched Black excellence get built and rebuilt and built again.
That truth is this:
We have never failed to rise. We have only ever been interrupted.
On April 27, 2026, BJL Publishing will release The Third Reconstruction: How Black America Will Win This Time— the third and final volume of the Power Trilogy. And with it, the argument I have spent three decades assembling will be complete.
This book operates at the highest altitude of the trilogy. It maps the historical cycle — Construction, Destruction, Reconstruction — that has defined Black life in America for more than 150 years. The First Reconstruction rose from the ashes of the Civil War and was crushed within a decade. The Second was born in the fire of the Civil Rights Movement and systematically dismantled by the politics that followed. Each time, the dream was real. Each time, the foundation was pulled from beneath it.
But this moment is different.
Not because the opposition has softened. Not because the political climate has shifted in our favor. This moment is different because — for the first time in our history — Black America is positioned to own the five systems that have always determined who holds power:
Capital. Data. Institutions. Narratives. Infrastructure.
These are not abstractions. They are the architecture of power. And every era of Black progress that was reversed had one thing in common: we did not own the architecture. We occupied rooms in buildings someone else controlled. We built movements in structures someone else owned. We won battles inside a system we were never positioned to hold.
The Third Reconstruction is the blueprint for changing that. Permanently.
